Dear Friends and Supporters,

Once again we desperately need your help in order to give two cats homes and a good quality of life.

Shortly before Christmas we were alerted to the plight of three homeless cats.  A kind man who had cats of his own and who also fed a number of garden cats noticed a stranger in their midst.  The next morning the cat arrived with a friend (or relative) in tow;  on the third morning there were four!  They were extremely friendly but in poor condition, especially the fourth who subsequently disappeared, probably to die.

Where did they come from?  Perhaps they were left out in the bitter cold without food when their elderly owner died and his house was locked up? A likely scenario but we will never know for sure.

Once the cats were in boarding we decided to leave them to recover from their ordeal until after Christmas, when a proper assessment of their health could be made.

Early in the New Year we decided, in view of a few persistent health problems, to take them to the Vet College in UCD for a thorough examination and a definite diagnosis and advice on their way forward.

The result of the tests were not what we had hoped; however, all were agreed that these are cats who deserve caring homes where their health would be a priority.  We were advised by the vet to try to find long term foster homes for them as soon as possible.

Now hear it from Sylvester and Louise.

I am Sylvester, a friendly, very handsome fellow, 1 – 2 years old.

I am very playful and cherful and I have been neutered and vaccinated.

Somehow, possibly from my mother, I was infected with FIV (Feline Immune Deficiency Virus) and also with FeLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus.)  These viruses cannot be communicated to humans or dogs but can be to other cats, so I need to be an only cat in an indoor home.  I tend to sneeze a lot but otherwise feel very well.  On account of my low immune system I would be more delicate than other cats so I need to be with someone who will notice when I am not well.  On the plus side I would repay the attention with so much unconditional love – can you give me a chance to enjoy my life in a warm, loving environment?

You won’t regret giving me a home, I promise!

Love,

Sylvester.

I am Louise, a little black cat (a kitten at heart!) with a white locket, also 1 – 2 years old.  I have been spayed & vaccinated.

I tested negative for FIV but positive for the Leukaemia virus so I too need to be an only cat in an indoor home.  I would be more prone to infection than other cats but with lots of TLC and good vet care I could live a good life.  If you would give me a chance I would repay you a hundredfold.  I long to sit on a lap and purr, toast myself by the fire, play with toys and give you all my love and loyalty.

Here’s hoping, hoping, HOPING!

Love,

Louise.

Back to our Carers!

The third cat in this little family tested negative for the viruses and is now in a temporary foster home where she is delighting her foster family with her exceptionally happy temperament.
