Urgent Appeal
During last summer and well into autumn we were inundated with numerous calls from people wanting mother cats and kittens removed from their gardens. Some were feral mothers; others abandoned domestic cats.
A few callers were willing to try to socialize the kittens - early socializing is crucial. Unfortunately these offers were few. We responded to all the calls but due to lack of kitten fosterers we had to put a number of kittens into boarding kennels. Had they been in foster homes these kittens would now be in permanent loving homes.
Staff in the kennels did their best but we are now left
with a number of beautiful four to six month old adolescents who are not in any
way aggressive but who are not accustomed to
being handled and are wary of
humans they
don't know. We
are desperately looking for understanding, cat-friendly people willing to give a permanent
home to one or two of these deserving young cats.
They need a quiet, adult home (an apartment would be perfectly suitable) where they could do their own thing without any pressure to become a lap cat. Time and space would allow their true personalities to emerge. Anyone who feels able to do this would be delighted and well rewarded to discover what loving companions they may end up with.
It requires patience and putting the cats first but the rewards are great. Back up and advice are always available. I speak from experience, having eight such cats. Initially quite un-touchable they are now like limpets & I am never alone in a chair.
If you feel that you could offer a home to one of these cats please phone our Helpline (01) 668 3529; leave a message and someone will return your call.
